Countertops for an island with one road in
Brigantine countertops go into a town that filled in over three generations. The island had under four hundred people in 1930 and more than twelve thousand by 2000, so almost every house dates from after the 1950s: capes and ranches from the first wave on the streets between Brigantine Boulevard and the ocean, 1970s and 1980s raised homes on the lagoons off Bayshore Avenue and in Harbor Beach, and the newer custom houses on the North End toward the Cove and the lighthouse. The South End near the bridge is where most of the condos and the smaller older cottages sit, and that is where a lot of the turnover and rental work happens. The typical Brigantine project is a 1970s lagoon house getting its first real kitchen since it was built, with the wall to the living room opened and an island facing the water.
That lagoon kitchen is the heart of our Brigantine work: an island where everyone gathers, a long run under the window toward the dock, and a stone chosen to look right against the water. We also help the North End owners doing full rebuilds pick a kitchen, bar and bath package at one visit. Our countertop fabrication and installation page shows how a job runs from the first template to the finished counter.
Granite, quartz, marble and quartzite
Which stone for a Brigantine kitchen
Granite countertops in Brigantine
Granite is the stone for a Brigantine kitchen that works hard. A lagoon house that hosts the boat crowd every weekend wants a surface that shrugs off a hot pan from the grill and a cooler dragged across it, and granite does. The blues and greys with a little movement look right next to the water, and a black granite with a honed finish suits a North End rebuild with white cabinets. It is porous, so it takes a sealer that gets refreshed when water stops beading on it.
Quartz countertops in Brigantine
Quartz is what we suggest for the South End condos and the Brigantine houses that rent for the season. It is engineered stone, non-porous and never sealed, so sunscreen, wine and ketchup wipe up clean, and the color is consistent from one end of the counter to the other. It comes in long slabs, so a straight run in a condo or a cape usually arrives in a single piece, and the soft whites and greys keep a small kitchen feeling open.
Marble countertops in Brigantine
Marble in Brigantine is mostly a bath stone and an island stone for the owner occupied houses on the North End. A honed white marble vanity with a matching shower threshold and seat is a regular request, and a Carrara island in a kitchen where the owners cook carefully is a classic look. Marble is softer than granite and etches where lemon or vinegar sits, so for a lagoon kitchen that hosts a crowd every weekend we steer you to quartzite, which gives the same veining with far more hardness.
Quartzite countertops in Brigantine
Quartzite is natural stone that looks like marble and wears like granite, and it has become the island stone of choice in the newer Brigantine builds. The white and grey varieties give a North End kitchen the Calacatta look on a surface that handles real cooking, and the slabs run large enough for a long island facing the lagoon without a seam. It takes a sealer like granite and the care is the same.
What we do
Our services in Brigantine
Along with countertops, Brigantine homes come to us for full height slab backsplashes, stone fireplace facings and hearths for a living room that faces the bay, marble or quartz vanity tops, shower seats and thresholds for the baths in a rebuild, and bar tops for a lagoon deck.
Brigantine
An island that faces the lagoon
In a Brigantine lagoon house the island is where everyone ends up, and it usually faces the water. That shapes the stone plan: we keep the seam off the side you look at most, lay the pieces out on the slab so the veining carries across, and plan a waterfall edge so the pattern turns the corner cleanly.

Why Rye Marble & Granite
Why Brigantine homeowners choose our showroom
Brigantine homeowners and the builders doing the North End rebuilds use our showroom because we know what a lagoon kitchen and a one bridge island need: a layout planned around the view, piece sizes that get up a raised house's stairs, and stone that looks right against the water. Granite, quartz, marble and quartzite are all here to compare side by side, with edge profiles to hold against your cabinet door. Estimates are free.
Good to know
Brigantine questions
Where will the seams go on a Brigantine island with a view?
If the island faces the lagoon, we keep the seam off the side you look at most and set it where the veining can carry across. On a smaller island there may be no seam at all. We lay the pieces out on the slab before cutting and show you the plan.
How far ahead should we pick stone for a Brigantine rebuild?
While the cabinets are on order. The template happens after the cabinets are in, so having the stone chosen keeps the countertops from holding up the finish work. Your builder's schedule tells us when to template and when the stone goes in.
Which countertop is best for a Brigantine summer rental?
Quartz. Non-porous and stain resistant, it wipes clean between guests and there is never a sealing schedule. A mid tone pattern hides the marks of a busy week.
Can you get stone up to a raised lagoon house?
Yes. Most Brigantine lagoon houses have the kitchen a flight up, so we look at the stairs and the turns at the template visit and split a long run where the seam hides best. Each piece is sized to make the trip cleanly.
Can you replace the top in a 1970s Brigantine kitchen and keep the cabinets?
Yes, if the cabinets are sound. The new top is templated to the existing boxes, the old top comes out and the new stone goes in the same day. A slab backsplash in the same stone finishes it.
Can we see the stone before we decide?
Yes. In person, at our showroom on the Black Horse Pike in Pleasantville, you can compare granite, quartz, marble and quartzite samples and edge profiles.
