Good to know
Common questions
What stone holds up best in a shower?
For a wet area we use durable stone that is sealed to resist moisture. Granite is very hard and low maintenance. Marble gives a classic spa look and is a longtime favorite for baths, with a little more care to keep it sealed. We recommend the right stone for your shower and how you use it.
Does marble hold up in a shower?
Marble has been used in showers and baths for a very long time and looks beautiful there. Because it is a natural, porous stone, it should be sealed and wiped down so it resists water spots and etching from some soaps and cleaners. If you love the marble look we will set it up to last, or steer you to a lower maintenance stone if you prefer.
What is a shower seat?
A shower seat is a built-in stone bench that lets you sit and relax under the warm spray. It adds a spa feel and can improve accessibility in the bathroom.
What is a shower threshold?
A threshold is a stone piece between the bathroom floor and the shower floor. It helps keep water in the shower and gives you a stable step into the space.
Are shower seats good for accessibility?
Yes. A shower seat is a helpful accessibility feature, and a threshold reduces the chance of slipping when stepping in and out.
Can you cut a threshold or curb to a custom size?
Yes. We fabricate thresholds and curbs to fit your exact opening, so the piece sits flush and does its job of keeping water in the shower. Custom sizing is a normal part of what we do.
Do you coordinate with the tile or waterproofing work?
We are happy to coordinate with your bath remodel so the stone seat and threshold fit the shower correctly. Reach out early and we will time our work with the rest of the project. If there is no contractor on the job, we can handle the installation as well.
Can the seat and threshold match my bathroom stone?
Often, yes. We can look for stone that coordinates with your vanity top, floor or shower walls, so the seat and threshold feel like part of the design.
